Fiona knows first hand the challenges women can face because she experienced many of them herself. From painful menstrual cycles, to mourning pregnancy loss, to walking away from a vaginal birth still feeling dissatisfied, to being a new parent struggling to breastfeed, to developing postpartum depression - she gets it. Which is why she didn’t want other families to have to work through these challenges alone.

As a birth and postpartum worker, Fiona is passionate about lactation, the postpartum transition and family health. Mothers need to be mothered, and so do fathers. Both parents are experiencing the birth and postpartum period together and when they both receive the support they need, the family as a whole unit thrive together. She believes every family can gain the necessary knowledge, tools and resources to be confident in their own abilities and intuition. It starts in pregnancy and continues for a lifetime. Her holistic approach, patience, empathy, knowledge and experiences guide parents as they venture into the beginning of their parenthood journeys.

Tanicia’s passion to become a Doula came to her at the age of 13 when her mother was pregnant with her sister. Experiencing first hand the ups and downs that flowed from pregnancy to birth (…and beyond), cemented her desire to care for mom and baby. After (literally) bumping into a midwifery student on the TTC one day she realized she could turn her passion into a career.

With 2 teenaged sisters at home she is the unofficial “period expert” in her family and among friends. She is fiercely passionate about social justice issues especially those that affect women, and has led women’s health seminars and ‘Lunch n Learn’ sessions at previous jobs. Tanicia LOVES to travel and has lived and worked with families in Italy and Spain; as well as volunteered in Germany, Ukraine and India.

The journey to becoming a mother, did more for me than just birth as a new woman, but also birthed a deep love and passion for birth and supporting women along the way.

I Provide families with support and resources to educate themselves along their journey to make sure each decision is a fully informed one, is something that truly makes my heart sing. Watching and observing each family transform and align with their new direction is a sight that I never take for granted, and appreciate each person who allows me to walk along them.

My intention as a birth worker is to provide a space for each family that is calming, loving, respectful, informative, and comfortable. It is in a space like this that one is able to accept that vulnerability is important and that surrendering to the ebbs and flows of birth, will provide each family with an everlasting feeling of empowerment.

You matter. Having experienced 3 very different births, it has been striking to me to learn how often the birthing person can be forgotten in the birth process. The focus is often on the baby and the birthing person's body. My first two pregnancies ended in cesarean sections after long labours on my own. When I became pregnant with my third I decided to do things differently. I surrounded myself with supportive caregivers who cared about my baby, my pregnant body AND me as a person. They listened to me, guided me and comforted me emotionally and physically. I conducted an immense amount of research that supported my birth prefrences so that I was able to make decisions with informed consent. In the end I had a successful, powerful and healing vaginal birth after two cesareans. In that moment the doula in me was also born. I want all birthing people to know and feel that they matter through their entire journey. I see no better way to do this than by being a doula. I am there for you because you matter.

I have spent over 6 years learning about birth. I spend my free time watching birth videos, reading statistics and discussing birth with my midwife and doula friends. After years of feeling called to a career in birth, I decided to complete my doula training. I have had the honour of supporting birthing people and postpartum families. Aside from the births of my own children, there has been no greater joy in my life so far than being told I helped someone do something they thought they could not. I am so excited to continue on this journey.
